Free running fun in the sun on Lockner Estate

Residents from Lockner Estate had fun in the sun last weekend as they celebrated the Big Lunch. One of the highlights of the day, which was organised by Lockner and Kingsgate Residents Association, was a free-running workshop taught by an instructor from Parkour Generations.  Residents of all ages learned to use their balance, climbing and jumping skills, while embracing their awareness of movement and keeping fit.

Musicians entertained children on the estate, whilst residents shared food from different cultures with their neighbours. There were lots of activities to keep all ages entertained, including seed planting in the communal gardens, face painting and a bike surgery for residents to get advice and bike repairs.

Danny Turton, a resident of Lockner estate, said: "The event was really good fun and I got to meet many local people from the estate.  It was great that we could do the free running sessions. The instructor was amazing and it was interesting to see the estate through his eyes."

Rupert Tyson, Chair of Hackney Homes Board said: “Events such as the Big Lunch allow neighbours to come together, meet each other and interact socially. We welcome such as this to encourage community spirit. ”

Now in its second year, The Big Lunch originated from the Eden Project in partnership with MasterCard and EDF energy to encourage and build upon community spirit nationwide.
