Ski on July 4 Weekend. Seriously.

Posted in : Snowboarding

(added last year!)

When most skiers think of slopes to try come July, Chile and Argentina come to mind. But this year, a couple of ski resorts that don’t require a passport are taking advantage of the buckets of snow that fell this winter to extend their seasons through July 4 weekend.

Ski on July 4 Weekend_ Seriously.

Mammoth resort in California is making a virtue of the snow and sun by offering a ski, bike and golf package — yes, all in one day  for $99. Or, if three activities in one day is too much for you, Mammoth is offering a ski and golf package for $89.

The offer is available through July 5. The current snow report at Mammoth predicts zero inches of snow in the next 24 hours but there is still a one- to five-foot base on the mountain. None of it, of course, on Mammoth’s Sierra Star Golf course.

A similar package is available farther north at Kirkwood  near Lake Tahoe, which is ending what it says is its latest ski season by offering a choice of skiing, snowboarding and mountain biking on Saturday for $32 and skiing and snowboarding on Sunday for the same price. Oh, and while you’re resting up, there’s a barbecue and fireworks. Kirkwood’s base at the upper mountain is about three feet, but the resort cautions that skiers and snowboarders will have to walk their skis to the lift once they’re at the bottom of the slope. We figured as much.
