An annual Labor Day skydiving event in Richmond has been canceled because of declining attendance and the slumping economy. The Richmond Boogie has been held at the Richmond Municipal Airport for more than 20 years. It started in 1987 as a revival of a 1972 skydiving event.

Officials with event host Skydive Wayne County Inc. say they are sad about canceling the event, but say the poor economy caused them to make the difficult decision to do so. The Richmond Boogie had billed itself as one of the largest Labor Day skydiving events in the world. In skydiving lingo, a boogie is a gathering of skydivers.
