Edmonton musician takes skydiving to a new level

By most people’s definition, skydiving is a thrill. But for an Edmonton musician, it wasn’t enough. Zeke Galt decided to go for two rushes at the same time. As a publicity stunt for his band, Surefire Machine, the daredevil rocker got tattooed last week while falling through the sky at 200 kilometres an hour.

"Simple things bore me, so I like things to be a little amped up, a little crazy,” Galt said at the Edmonton Skydive Club. “So are most guys in my band, but I had to take it a step further."Al Christou, a skydive instructor and tattoo artist, said the idea came about at a party.

"He was over for New Year’s, and my brother’s a tattoo artist, and we were talking about it. Is it possible? And they decided that he would be the one to try it out."Galt said that, with Christou, he was in good hands.

"I trust all these guys; they’re all really experienced. They’re all really good guys, so the fear was about two weeks ago and it lasted about a day.

But after just 55 seconds of free fall, it was all over — and Galt had a new tattoo: the initials for his band, S.F.

"I got a little jolt jumping out of the plane because my brain didn’t know what I was doing, and after that, the fear went away and the rest was just natural."
