Reymar Ramirez is the new Costa Rican bodyboarding champion. The rider from Quepos de Puntarenas took the first national title in the four-foot waves of Playa Hermosa de Jacó.
In the final heat of the event held by the Asociación de Bodyboard de Costa Rica (ABCR), there were four wave riders: Reymar Ramirez, Ivan Castillo, Emilio Vargas and John Culpepper.
Ramirez was crowned the first winner of an official national bodyboarding contest, in the Open category with 25 bodyboarders. In the Women's division, Beatriz Arleo, from Venezuela, dominated the final series against Megwyn Sauders, Cindy Diaz and Jimena Calvo.
In the Junior and Drop Knee categories, Anthony Delgado and Ivan Castillo took top honours, respectively. Castillo de Quepos had two podium finishes (Open and Dropknee), in which he was second.
The inaugural Costa Rica Bodyboarding Championships was competed by 47 athletes from all over the country. After the success of the first competition, the ABCR aims to create a National Bodyboarding Tour.
